Ok so I’m going to share this little gem with you all who want open hips because let’s face it open hips are happy hips.
I love hip openers. Scratch that I’m obsessed with hip openers and have been since I was little. Ok, no I didn’t know what hip openers were when I was little but I could do the splits when I was little. I used to show off to all the neighbors because I was one of the few who could just slide into the splits.
I started doing yoga in September of 2012 (18 years old) at my highest weight (198). I could still do the splits but it was a struggle. Once I started going to yoga I became friends with two of the instructors and they both loved hip openers (they still do).
Anyway they both hated pigeon because let’s face it EVERYONE does pigeon so they would do other less known hip openers on the regular. So I thought I would share three of my favorite hip openers with you all.
The first two hip openers almost anyone can do but the third (Monkey Pose) you have to work up to.
Frog Pose (first picture) is especially good if you want to learn how to do the Russian Splits. Honestly so good and the lover you go the more it challenges you. I try to do this for about 5 minutes two times a week. After five minutes you will feel it because you will honestly sink really far into the pose.
Runners Hurdlers (second picture) is a pose that really challenges me. I have kind of a love hate relationship with it. Once I am in this pose its hard to find balance of how low I can go without hurting my body and how do I cope with the challenge of staying in the correct pose. Although it challenges me I know that it really helps open my hips which in turn makes them happy, making me happy.
The last photo is Monkey Pose or as most people call it the splits. I have to say I can easily touch my head to my knee and my hands past my feet when I am in this pose whereas before I could only do the splits. Hip openers are honestly, in my opinion, one of the best benefits of yoga.
